Council Update - February 2021

A FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT WORKING FOR YOU
As a community volunteer in Pinecrest, I believe our local government should be the gold standard of meeting Residents’ needs.

Next week, on March 3rd, we’ll hold a strategic planning session to determine the direction the Village goes.  With this approaching, I wanted to share what’s on my mind and what I’ve been working on.  More importantly, I want to know what you think – feedback on my ideas, and also reactions of your own.   We need to preserve this fiscally responsible government while also making sure we provide the services that make Pinecrest so special.

I also want to share critical updates on the COVID Vaccine, Developments at Pinecrest Gardens, and Cultural Offerings.

VACCINE/TESTING
Good news: the vaccine will soon be offered in Pinecrest!

The Publix store in Pinecrest will begin administering COVID-19 vaccines starting Monday, March 1st. Appointments are necessary. Residents 65+ can begin applying today, February 26th as of 7:00 a.m. Please visit publix.com/covidvaccine for more information.

GOVERNMENT THAT WORKS FOR YOU
Families First: Upper Gardens Project
The Village of Pinecrest has one of a handful of petting zoos in Miami-Dade County in our own Pinecrest Gardens, and preparations are under way for a new playground and a new petting zoo.

The playground equipment needs to be upgraded so that it is safe for our families and children.  The Upper Gardens renovations will not only be safe, but fully ADA Compliant and accessible.  It will feature an all-inclusive playground and an Inspiration Center – where children of all needs can have a wonderful experience.

Because we have been financially sound, we are able to make these sorts of investments that keep our children safe and ensure Pinecrest maintains its reputation as a wonderful place to raise families.

Bringing the MDTLA to Pinecrest Gardens
Smart government also means looking out for our local Pinecrest institutions.

My husband, Skip Pita, and I were thrilled to join the Miami-Dade Trial Lawyers Association at our own Pinecrest Gardens last Saturday for their swearing in of new officers.  As Past President, I encouraged the MDTLA to support our own world-class Pinecrest Gardens - a beautiful outdoor venue that has full COVID safety measures in place. The staff is highly professional and helped run a flawless event, and I encourage all organizations to consider Pinecrest Gardens for ceremonies and celebrations!

CULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES
Grace Kelly, a nationally famous musician, will be holding a virtual concert at our Banyan Bowl TONIGHT!  You can still purchase virtual tickets here.  A percentage of the proceeds goes to World Central Kitchen.

Grace Kelly has performed on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, at President Obama’s Presidential Inauguration, and has been recognized by Vanity Fair as one of the Jazz musicians “shaking up the jazz world”.  Get your tickets here!

IN CLOSING
It is my honor to serve you in local government, and I hope to do it well.  There is no clear playbook on how to emerge from a global pandemic even stronger than before, but in Pinecrest we have always taken our fate into our own hands.  Before I go to that March 3rd strategic planning meeting, please let me know what’s on your mind.
