We all want to do our part to protect the environment and preserve our resources—and one of the easiest ways is through better recycling. But we also know it can be confusing. What can go in the bin? What shouldn’t? This year, the Village is launching a community-wide campaign to help answer those questions—and make it easier than ever to recycle right.
On this year’s trip to the recycling plant, the Village Communications Team joined in to turbo charge the effort. You’ll be seeing more resources, tips, and clear guidelines rolling out soon. The goal? To help all of us recycle smarter, not harder.
Here’s one easy rule of thumb that the plant managers gave us on paper products:
“If you can rip it, you can recycle it.”
That means yes to junk mail, glossy magazines, and even envelopes with those little plastic windows.
A few other quick tips:
There’s also exciting progress ahead: our waste management partners are building a new, larger facility with state-of-the-art sorting technology. It will be able to recycle more kinds of plastics, more volume, and will operate faster and more efficiently. As plastics advance, so, too, must the recycling technology.
And it’s not just about going green—it’s about supporting American industry. One of the biggest buyers of recycled aluminum is ALCOA, a major U.S. manufacturer. When we recycle right, we’re helping business lower costs while protecting the environment.
