As we near the end of 2024, we have much to be thankful for in Pinecrest:
In 2024, Pinecrest was rated 1st out of 88 Best Places to Raise a Family in Miami-Dade County by Niche.com.
The Village purchased Aleyda Mas Park, a 5-acre property located at 11855 SW 60th Avenue. Stay tuned for a community meeting where Village Staff will present the findings from the park survey and invite Residents to provide additional input on the future design. Please click here if you would like to participate in the survey – deadline to complete the survey is 12/20.
The Gary Matzner Park design has been finalized, and construction is scheduled to begin March 2025. If all goes as planned, construction will be complete by the end of 2025.
The Miami New Times named Pinecrest Gardens the "Best Farmer's Market" in the Greater Miami Area. When you go to the market, please visit our composting tent. Village residents can pick up a free composting bin at the Farmer's Market and drop off food waste in the bins next to Whilden Carrier Cottage. Our Village has composted over 67,000 pounds of food and kept this waste out of our landfills. Sustainability is a shared responsibility – let's all do our part!
The peacock mitigation program continues. Since inception, 174 peafowl have been captured. Of those, 93 were males and vasectomies were performed. While this may not seem like an overwhelming number, male peacocks have multiple partners during mating season (which begins around February) and each peahen can lay upwards of 12 eggs. If you see a bird parading through the Village with a small ring around their ankle, this means they have visited with Dr. Harris.
To help, the Village will send trappers to your area on request. The trappers are using a net system now. So, if you see a large group of peacocks, please call the Village at (305) 234-2121.
Community safety remains a top priority. Our Village Police received their 7th consecutive re-accreditation award from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Advanced Police Accreditation. This is the Gold Standard for public safety agencies. In March of 2024, a CALEA representative visited from Texas to conduct a full review of our department and our Village Police passed with flying colors.
Thank you to our Village Police for another outstanding year of service and for keeping our community safe.
Councilwoman Katie Abbott and Anna Hockhammer each completed two terms of service on our council. Thank you to Councilwomen Abbott and Hochkammer for their dedication. It was an honor to serve alongside them.
Welcome to Councilmen Ariel Meyer (Seat 1) and Jerry Greenberg (Seat 2).
After knocking on over 4,000 doors, I was re-elected to Seat 3. I am grateful for the time residents gave me at the door, the polls and for the privilege to serve again.
As we look to 2025, our future is bright!
And our holidays are bright at the Gardens. If you have the opportunity, come see the Nights of Lights from 6-9 p.m. through January 4. See the schedule of events and more information by clicking here.
Thank you for your ongoing support and feedback in making Pinecrest the wonderful place it is. Our collective contributions are keys to the success of our Village and I look forward to all that we will achieve together in the new year.
Until then, may your holidays be filled with the spirit of the season and every happiness to you in 2025!
