Putting the Brakes on Speed
Dear Skip,
Waze. Thru-traffic. Speeders. These represent a prevalent concern expressed by Residents as I knock on doors.
Managing traffic is a Village priority. The Village has recently implemented several new measures to slow traffic. And there is more to come.
Recent Traffic Management Measures:
Installed new radar speed signs throughout the Village. You may have noticed new radars on 72nd and 77th Avenues, and 98th St. These signs flash and warn drivers when they are over the speed limit.
Implemented the School Zone Safety Camera Program to enhance our children’s safety. This program employs advanced camera systems to enforce speed limits in school zones. Times, locations and FAQs can be found here
Received a $280,000 grant through the Federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. This money will support our Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, aiming to enhance safety with more traffic mitigation strategies.
To compliment the grant, Council passed a resolution in October directing the Village Manager to develop and implement an Action plan to achieve “Vision Zero” in Pinecrest. Vision Zero is a national movement that assists municipalities to develop strategies to improve and enhance safety. It is a multi-disciplinary approach bringing together engineers, law enforcement, planners, the community and the Council to develop community wide strategies/solutions, pilot programs and infrastructure improve to safety.
Speaking with Residents at the door, at the farmers market, or elsewhere – your concerns are my NorthStar. Here in Pinecrest, we meet our challenges head-on and, together, we overcome them. We solve problems. Pinecrest is our home – let’s protect and preserve it.
Have a great weekend!
Committed to our Community,
Shannon Del Prado
