Tips For Staying Safe - Recent Burglaries

Recently, we have had some residential burglaries in the northern section of the Village. The burglaries have occurred during the midafternoon to early evening hours.  Our Village Police are on top of it.  So far, our Police have determined that this criminal ring focuses on homes that are not occupied.  This ring appears to be looking for jewelry, typically in the master bedroom.  Our Village Police have already begun deploying additional resources to patrol the affected section of Pinecrest.  They are also coordinating with other police departments and sharing information.

Pinecrest Crimewatch In Action

I had the pleasure of attending a Pinecrest Crimewatch meeting yesterday.  Here are some tips from our Village Police on this matter:

1) Lock it up.
2) Turn on the alarm.
3) If you are going out, leave on some lights  - maybe even a TV – to give the home an occupied look.
3) Report suspicious or unfamiliar vehicles and pedestrians to the police.
4) Make sure that cars, garage doors, windows, and skylights are secured.
5) Book a Pinecrest Police Home Security Survey (our officers will come to your home and do a complimentary walk-through to provide tips on improving security).
6) Keep valuables out of the master bedroom.  Relocate valuables to other rooms of the house.
7) If going on vacation, suspend any newspaper subscription or package deliveries, and arrange for someone to pick up the mail.
8) Set up a Watch Order with the police department when leaving town. https://www.pinecrest-fl.gov/Government/Police
9) If on vacation, be mindful of social media posts that might inform people of your whereabouts.
10) If your neighborhood does not have a Crimewatch chat, consider starting one.  Our Police will help you organize that.

Pinecrest Police: Here to Help

Finally, our Village Police will host a Crimewatch block party with you.  Block parties are a great way to build community and connect with your neighbors.  If you are interested in organizing a crime watch block party, reach out to Captain Cruz at 305/234-2100.

Pinecrest is the special Village that it is because we have always taken collective action to strengthen our community. Let’s keep it going!
