End Of Year 2023

As the year ends, join me in celebrating our Village’s successes in 2023.  We have much to be proud of.

#1: Community Safety:

Our community’s safety is of deepest importance. Our officers continue to set the standard for Community Based Policing -- standing watch at our houses of worship, leading community kickball games or events with our local schools, joining costume judging contests at the Gardens, running toy drives in the community, providing a presence at our local Farmers Market, and much more.  Pinecrest Police are truly integrated into our community.

Thank you for another outstanding year of service and for keeping our community safe.

#2: Sustainability:
A wise person once said we did not inherit the environment from our parents  -- rather, we have it on loan from future generations. Sustainability is a shared responsibility.  In partnership with the County, the Village has adopted a composting program to keep food waste out of our landfills. Village residents can pick up a free composting bin at the Farmer’s Market and drop off food waste in the bins next to Whilden Carrier Cottage. Additionally, the Village hosted our first Polishing Pinecrest Drive-thru and drop off recycling event which included electronic, chemicals and clothing - all in one place. These efforts reflect our community’s commitment to future generations.

#3: Peacocks:
The peacock overpopulation has vexed us for years. But this year, Pinecrest took action and found a responsible solution that garnered national attention - vasectomies.  The procedure is humane.  Our peacocks will continue to have their beautiful plumage. The population simply will not reproduce at the existing rate.  Dr. Don Harris is currently administering the program.  You may notice some of our beautiful friends parading through the Village with a small ring around their ankle, indicating they have visited with Dr. Harris.

#4: Infrastructure:
Over the last two years, Pinecrest has made substantial progress in infrastructure, completing our Village Potable Water Project and continuing with improvements in stormwater drainage. Our Public Works department worked relentlessly. We are fortunate to have men and women who have dedicated themselves to serving Pinecrest in this way. We have a top-grade professional Village staff.

Further progress on Pinecrest infrastructure in 2023!

#5: Standing Together Against Division:

Finally, we were tested this year with a referendum that could have changed our system of government.  We saw a division that has rarely made its way into our community. The eyes of Miami-Dade County were on Pinecrest. In the end, we voted to uphold our charter.  We proved that when challenged, we unify to protect our Village. The measure of community success isn’t the absence of challenges, but how you deal with them.  Pinecrest rose to the occasion with strength and optimism.

In Closing

Our future is bright as we look to 2024. We have a gem in Pinecrest.

Thank you for your ongoing support, either through participating in community events or sharing feedback.  Our collective contributions are keys to the success of our Village.

Wishing you and yours a joyous holiday season and every happiness in 2024!
